Matt Chauncey

Director

Matt Chauncey is an award-winning Filmmaker, Director, and Cinematographer who lives in Austin, Texas. His love for the performing arts began 30 years ago when his high school theatre group, Creative Ministries, went on a mission trip to Juarez, Mexico. During this experience, Matt saw firsthand how a small group of people with an uplifting story could have a huge impact on a community. From there, he was hooked.

After graduating from Texas Tech University with a BFA in Theatre Arts, Matt moved to Los Angeles where he honed his camera chops by shooting dozens of Indie films. After working his way into the camera department on a movie called Crossroads featuring Britney Spears, he decided that the Hollywood Studio scene was not where he wanted to be. Matt packed his bags and moved to New York City to study Directing and Cinematography at New York Film Academy.

After graduating from NYFA, Matt wrote, directed, and shot his film Frame, which was an official selection at 12 film festivals. Frame won the Sir Edmund Hillary Award at the Colorado International Film Festival and won the Audience Award at the Flatland Film Festival. Matt then spent two more years in New York where he began developing his career as a Commercial Artist.

In 2011, Matt moved to Austin where he directs, shoots, and creates national ad campaigns and commercial art for brands such as Dell, Verizon, Garmin, SXSW Festival, Bose, and many, many more. His work has earned over 20 Addy Awards and taken him to a dozen countries. Matt believes that his opportunity to work on He Rules the World is divine providence. He’s excited to have reconnected with his love of performing arts and to have finally shown his wife and son something that they think is cool.
